Composer

Born in Seoul, Boknam Lee learned both the bachelor and master of arts degrees in music composition from Seoul National University where she studied with Byungdong Paik. She continued her education in the United States, studying composition with Charles Wuorinen, Nicholas Roussakis and Gerald Chenoweth, ultimately earning a Ph.D. at Rutgers University. 

 She was a research scholar at University of North Texas in 2007.

 Boknam produced a number of chamber, solo, vocal and orchestral works and had four recitals of her compositions in 2001(Seoul), 2009(Seoul, U.S.A.) and 2016(Seoul). Many of her compositions have been performed at festivals, including the Black Sea Summer Festival in Rumania(2000), Seoul-New York Exchange Concert of Pan Music Festival in New York(2002), Asian contemporary Music Festival in Seoul(2002), Rutgers Percussion Ensemble Concert in New Jersey(2002), International Festival of Women in Music Today(2003), Sounds Korea: A Festival of Korean Music in New Zealand(2004), Beijing Contemporary Music Festival(2005), Experience Korean Contemporary Music in London(2006), Contemporary Music Festival of East Asia in Hiroshima(2009, 2010) and the V. International Music Festival "We Gather Friends" in Moscow(2011).

 She was a music director of New Yong-In International Music Festival(NYIMF) and a board member of Korean Society of Women Composers. At present, she is on the faculty of Myongji University in Korea. She is also a president of Korean Composers Association as well as the president of the Society for East-West Music.
